Announcing Agentic Banking on OnePay

Share

How many people do you know who keep a running list in their notes app of things they're waiting to buy? A new stroller when your paycheck arrives. A specific pair of boots before it gets cold. A flight for the holidays that you’re waiting to book until the price drops.

Those examples (and the tediousness that comes with them) are why we’re announcing Agentic Banking at OnePay, which will provide eligible customers with the option to give their AI agent access to a spending pocket that you control — and make your day-to-day easier in the process.

Your agent will be able to spend only from its own balance and never from your main account, with per-purchase limits and monthly caps that you set. Once active, you can connect your preferred AI agent and let it:

  • Run your chores. Let it get through the list we all go through when we get paid, at the beginning of the month or when bills are due.

  • Buy at the right moment. Watch for the price, size, or availability of the items you want, and buy them together, separately, over time, or when your paycheck lands.

  • Buy and sell crypto  following your instructions and using only the funds in its pocket (if you choose to turn it on).

Why we’re launching this

Personal AI agents are increasingly helping people with various aspects of their lives. We had a choice to make: block personal agents from accessing their customers’ accounts, or build a controlled way to safely help customers. We chose the latter. Our strategy at OnePay is built around meeting customers where they are — and enabling them to access their money in more novel and helpful ways along the way.

Your AI agent waits the way you wish you had time to. And with agentic banking, it can take action on your behalf. The coat that's out of stock now, the appliance you need but don't want to overpay for, the school supply list you'd rather not buy all at once — your agent can track all of that, and handle the purchase assuming it’s in stock and within the price range you set for its account.

It's not only about buying, either. Your agent can already draw on your real financial picture, balance and transaction and credit history to help with big financial decisions.

Planning a trip becomes grounded in what's actually affordable, not just what looks alright. Market news is explained in terms of what someone is actually invested in, instead of a generic answer about the overall market. And a decision like whether to buy a car outright, finance it, or lease it can draw on real credit history and existing debt, instead of guesswork.

The rules

At first when you connect an agent, it can only see your OnePay accounts. It can’t take any action. You choose what it can do next. You can allow it to make purchases on your behalf, and can additionally allow it to trade crypto through OnePay. Security is built into every purchase, with each purchase using an agentic single-use payment credential that expires immediately after the transaction, and you control the limits on what it can spend.

Your agent gets a separate pocket, not your whole account. When you connect an agent and then allow it to take action on your behalf, OnePay opens a separate subaccount that the agent has access to.

You can turn it off without a conversation. No call, no explanation, just a toggle in the app, and the connected agent loses the ability to spend immediately. Revoking access ends trading, too, and you can revoke any one agent without affecting the others.

Agentic Crypto trading around the clock

To trade markets that run 24/7, it helps to have an agent that can work on your behalf 24/7. Turn on Agentic Crypto trading, and your agent can trade for you around the clock, so you’re not glued to a screen. It can buy on a schedule, when you get paid, or when a price hits your target, and sell when you choose to.

It only makes one-time trades from what’s in its pocket, and you set the most it can buy in a single trade. Sale proceeds land back in the pocket. The agent can’t move crypto in or out of your account or send it to anyone.

Your agent can also read your OnePay Crypto portfolio and market insights, so questions about your holdings get answered from what you actually own.

What makes this different

I keep coming back to why this felt worth building carefully instead of quickly. Agents are going to be everywhere, and people will use more than one. So we built it to work with the agents you already use, under one set of rules, with the customer in charge.

Yes, your agent can watch for presale tickets and buy the moment they open. It can wait for the rare sneaker to drop in your size. But it can also do the quieter, more common work: watch for your paycheck and run the usual chores every time you get paid. Whatever it’s buying, it spends only from its designated pocket, inside the limits you set.

We built this as part of OnePay Next, our incubator for experimentation, and we hope it will help people get more done with their money, on their terms.
