Can my teen receive gifts from friends and family in their OnePay checking balance?#
Yes. If your teen banks through OnePay, friends and family can use your teen’s unique gift link to send them cash as a gift to be deposited directly into your teen’s OnePay checking balance.
If your teen is an authorized user on an Invest account, friends and family can use the unique gift link to send cash, stock, or an ETF as a gift.
The person sending the gift does not need a OnePay account or the OnePay app. The gift link opens a secure web experience where they can complete the gifting process.
What is a unique gift link?#
A unique gift link is a personalized link that you or your teen can share with family and friends. Each teen has their own gift link associated with their OnePay profile.
The person sending the gift does not need a OnePay account. Using a debit card they can send:
Cash
Eligible stock or ETFs, if your teen is an authorized user on a OnePay Invest account
How do I share my teen’s gift link?#
Each teen has a unique gift link that can be shared with friends and family.
To share your teen’s gift link:
Open the OnePay app.
Tap your teen.
Tap the settings icon in the upper-right corner.
Tap [name]’s gift link from your teen’s settings.
Select whether your teen can receive gifts of cash, stock, or both.
Your teen must be an authorized user on an Invest account to receive stock.
Tap Share [name]’s link.
Follow the on-screen steps to select and share your teen’s gift link with friends and family.
When someone opens the link, they’ll be taken to a page where they can choose and personalize their gift to your teen.
Can my teen share their gift link?#
Yes, your teen can share their gift link with friends and family.
To share their gift link, your teen should:
Open the OnePay app.
Tap the settings icon in the upper-right corner.
Tap Share your gift link from your settings.
Follow the on-screen steps to copy or share your link with friends and family.
When someone opens the link, they’ll be taken to a page where they can choose and personalize their gift.
How do I send a cash gift?#
To send a gift of cash:
Open the teen’s unique gift link.
Selects Cash or Get started (if cash is the only gift option available).
Enter a gift amount or choose from the available amounts.
Add a personal touch by inputting the gifter’s name, picking a color of the gift image, or adding an optional message.
Enter your payment information, and tap Send gift.
Gift payments must be made using a debit card. Credit cards will not be accepted.
Once the payment is processed, the cash gift is added to the teen’s Checking balance. The teen and their parent will receive a notification after receiving the gift.
Where does a cash gift appear?#
After the payment is processed, the cash gift is added to your teen’s Checking balance.
You and your teen may receive a notification when the gift is available.
How do I send a stock gift?#
You can send stock as a gift to a teen if they are an authorized user on an Invest account.
To send a stock or ETF gift:
Open the teen’s unique gift link.
Select Stock or Get started (if stock is the only gift option available).
Choose from available investments or search for an eligible stock or ETF.
Enter the amount you’d like to send.
Add optional details, such as the teen’s name, a note, a gift image, or a GIF.
Enter your payment information, and tap Send gift.
Gift payments must be made using a debit card. Credit cards will not be accepted.
The stock gift must be accepted by the recipient before an order is placed. The selected investment may also be changed to another eligible stock or ETF by the recipient before the order is submitted.
If the market is open, OnePay places the order after the gift is accepted. If the market is closed, the order is scheduled for when the market opens.
What investments can I give as a stock gift?#
You can select an eligible stock or ETF available through OnePay Invest for teens.
You aren’t sending stock directly. Instead, you send cash and choose the stock or ETF you’d like the teen to purchase.
Before the order is placed, the teen can either:
Accept your selected investment
Choose a different eligible stock or ETF
Once the teen confirms the selection, the cash is used to place the order.
Not all investments available through OnePay Invest are eligible to be sent as a stock gift.
Can someone send a stock gift if my teen doesn’t have access to OnePay Invest?#
No. Stock gifts are only available after you open an Invest account and add your teen as an authorized user.
If investing hasn’t been enabled for your teen, family and friends can still send a cash gift.
Where does a stock gift appear?#
After the gift is sent, your teen receives a notification to accept the stock gift. They can choose to accept the gift and add the stock to the account, or they can pick a different eligible stock.
After your teen accepts their gift in the OnePay app, and the order is completed, the investment appears in your teen’s Invest account. You as the parent remain the account owner and responsible for any tax implications; your teen is an authorized user.
What if my stock gift isn’t accepted?#
A stock gift is funded with cash that is intended to purchase the stock or ETF selected by the gift sender. The gift must be accepted by you or your teen before OnePay can place the order for that investment.
You or your teen has 30 days to accept the gift. If the gift isn’t accepted within that time, the stock order is canceled and the cash is added to the Checking balance associated with the teen’s profile instead.
Can my teen receive gifts if trading is turned off?#
Yes. The setting that controls whether your teen can receive gifts is separate from the controls you set for their banking and investing.
For example, your teen may still be able to receive a stock gift when their trading is turned off. Your teen won’t be able to place other trades until you turn trading back on.
Does my teen have any limits on receiving gifts?#
Yes. Your teen can receive up to $1,000 in gifts during a rolling 30-day period.
This limit applies to all gifts of cash or stock received by them during that period.
Can I turn off gifts for my teen?#
Yes. Your teen receives gifts by default, but you can manage whether they are able to receive cash or stock gifts from the teen’s settings.
To turn off gifts:
Open the OnePay app.
Tap your teen.
Tap the settings icon in the upper-right corner.
Tap [name]’s gift link from your teen’s settings.
Select whether your teen can receive gifts of cash, stock, or both.
