What is a direct deposit?#

Direct deposit is an automated payment method where funds, such as paychecks, gig platform payments, retirement payments, or government benefits like unemployment payments or Social Security, are electronically transferred to your account. Spark Driver earnings, @Work Instapays, and @Work Save contributions are also considered direct deposits.

Payments or transfers through person-to-person providers such as Venmo, PayPal, Apple Cash, or Cash App are not considered a direct deposit. Cash deposits, mobile check deposits, wire transfers, One to One transfers, and ACH funding or debit card funding transfers initiated from the OnePay app also do not qualify as direct deposits.

How do I set up my direct deposit?#

You can set up direct deposit through the OnePay app or through your employer’s payroll provider.

Set up direct deposit in the OnePay app:

  • Select Cash Control.

  • Select Direct Deposit.

  • Select Find Your Employer.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to select your employer, where you want your funds deposited, and how much of your paycheck you want deposited into OnePay.

Set up direct deposit through your employer:

Some employers or payroll providers require you to set up direct deposit through their payroll system. You may need to provide the following information:

  • Account and routing numbers: Tap here to view your account information.

  • Bank name: OnePay

  • Bank address: P.O. Box 513717, Los Angeles, CA 90051

  • Account type: Checking

Make sure you select Checking, not Savings, when providing your OnePay account and routing numbers.

You can also tap here to set up direct deposit.

It may take 1-2 pay cycles for your employer to update your direct deposit information. If you haven’t received your direct deposit within 2 business days after your employer sent it, contact your payroll provider directly.

How do I get paid early?#

OnePay will post your direct deposit as soon as we receive it, up to two days early (3 days early from limited employers), based on when we receive the funds from your employer or the other sender. The timing of your deposit depends on when the sender initiates the payment to your OnePay account, which means that your direct deposit may not arrive early every paycheck. Direct deposits are posted Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.

OnePay does not have insight into where your direct deposit may be in this process until we post it to your account.

What are the perks of setting up direct deposit?#

If you receive $500 or more in eligible direct deposits per month, you will unlock the following additional benefits:

  • Up to $200 in Fee-Free Overdraft Protection

  • Mobile Check Deposit

  • OnePay Cash Advance

  • 3% cash back in OnePay Points on qualifying non-Walmart purchases made with their CashRewards Credit Card through December 31, 2026

How is my direct deposit applied once it reaches my OnePay account?#

When your direct deposit arrives in your OnePay deposit account, the funds are automatically applied to certain balances and transfers in a set order, if applicable. This helps keep your account up to date and allows scheduled activity to continue when funds are available.

Your deposit is applied in the following order:

  • OnePay Advance Repayment: Funds are used to repay any outstanding OnePay Advance balance.

  • Fee-Free Overdraft Balance: Funds are used to reduce any negative Checking balance.

  • Pay Autosave Transfer: Funds are used to complete your Pay Autosave transfer, if set up.

  • Scheduled or Recurring Transfers: Funds are used to complete any scheduled or recurring transfers, including transfers within OnePay or to external accounts.

  • Invest Recurring Buys: Funds are used to complete any recurring investment purchases.

  • Crypto Recurring Buys: Funds are used to complete any recurring crypto purchases.

Important: If your deposit is not enough to cover all items, funds are applied in this order until the deposit is used up. Lower-priority items may not be completed.

Why is my direct deposit not correctly recognized?#

If your direct deposit is not being correctly identified by OnePay, please contact OnePay Customer Service or type “Agent” in Chat to be connected to a OnePay Specialist.

How long does it take to receive my direct deposit after switching to OnePay?#

Your employer may take 1–2 full pay cycles to update your direct deposit information. This means your first direct deposit to OnePay may not arrive until your next payday or the following one.

Your paycheck may continue to be deposited into your previous account while your employer processes the change.

Make sure your employer has the correct routing number, account number, and account type. Your OnePay account type should be listed as Checking.

Once your employer sends your direct deposit, eligible deposits may arrive up to 2 days before your scheduled payday. The timing of your deposit depends on when OnePay receives the payment information from your employer or payroll provider.

If your direct deposit hasn’t arrived after two pay cycles, contact your employer or payroll provider to confirm that your updated information was processed.
