What are notional trading and fractional shares?#
Notional trading and fractional shares apply to dollar-denominated market orders. Limit buys, limit sells, and stop-loss sells must use full shares. Fractional shares are not available for conditional orders.
Fractional shares are a portion of a full share of stock. They’re created when you place a notional order, which is an order based on a dollar amount rather than a specific number of shares.
For example, if a company’s stock costs $150 per share, you can invest $5 and own a fraction of that share.
Fractional shares can only be traded within OnePay Invest and OnePay IRA. They can’t be transferred to another brokerage account.
When can I place trades?#
You can place an order in the OnePay app at any time, but trades are only processed during U.S. stock market hours: Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time (excluding market holidays).
If you place an order outside those hours, it will automatically queue for the next market opening and go through when the market reopens. Conditional orders, including limit buys, limit sells, and stop-loss sells, may remain pending until they are filled, cancelled, or expire. OnePay doesn’t support pre-market or after-hours trading.
How do I place a trade?#
To place a trade in the OnePay app:
Open the OnePay app
Tap Invest
Once you locate the investment you’d like to trade, select Buy or Sell
Follow the on-screen instructions to place your order
Important: Market orders placed are submitted at the best available market price during market hours. Orders placed outside market hours are queued for the next market opening. Limit buy, limit sell, and stop-loss sell orders are full-share conditional orders that may remain pending until they are executed, cancelled, rejected, or expire. Customers can select the appropriate order type from the Buy or Sell menu.
What happens if I don’t have enough funds in my OnePay deposit account to buy stocks or ETFs?#
For market buys if you don’t have enough funds in your OnePay deposit account, you may be able to add funds to your account or use an eligible linked debit card.
For limit buys, you’ll need enough available buying power to cover the full shares you want to buy at the limit price you select.
Overdraft and Savings Backup can’t be used for Invest purchases.
How can I check my past Invest trades?#
You can view your full history of stock and ETF buys and sells directly in the OnePay app.
To check your Invest transaction history:
Open the OnePay app
Go to the Invest section from the Home tab
Tap Settings, then Transaction history
How are trades completed?#
All trade orders are routed to our regulated clearing partner, DriveWealth, for execution.
DriveWealth executes all orders. Dollar-denominated market orders are submitted at the best available market price during standard market hours. Limit buys execute only at the limit price or lower; limit sells execute only at the limit price or higher; neither is guaranteed to execute. A stop-loss sell becomes a market sell once its stop price is reached, so its execution price may differ from the stop price. Conditional orders remain pending until they execute, are cancelled, are rejected, or expire. If you place an order outside market hours, it will go through when the market reopens.
Prices in the app are updated frequently, but they may change slightly by the time your trade is completed.
Can I cancel a trade?#
You can cancel eligible pending orders through Pending activity in the Invest section of your OnePay app. Dollar-denominated market orders submitted during market hours generally cannot be cancelled because they are processed promptly.
To view your transaction history:
Open the OnePay app
Select Invest or IRA from the Home tab under Your Investments
On your portfolio page, you’ll see a section titled “Pending activity” where any open orders will be displayed
Select the order you would like to cancel, then click Cancel
Which stocks and ETFs are not supported?#
You can trade most major U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs listed on the NYSE and Nasdaq.
We don’t support:
Stocks with very low trading volume or very small market caps
Stocks priced under $1 (penny stocks)
Leveraged or inverse ETFs
Bonds, mutual funds, futures, or options
If you don’t see a stock in the app, it may not be supported by OnePay Invest. If a stock or ETF you already own falls out of policy for what OnePay Invest supports, you won’t be able to buy more, but you will still be able to sell your shares.
Can I trade on margin or buy options?#
OnePay Invest doesn’t support trading with margin leverage or options trading.
OnePay Invest does not support margin, leverage, or options. Dollar-denominated market buys are funded through the OnePay deposit account and may use eligible linked debit-card funding. Limit buys require sufficient available buying power.
How do I report a trade issue?#
If something doesn’t look right with your trade, you have the option to initiate a dispute. Click here to learn more about how to initiate a dispute in the OnePay app.
Are there limits on Invest transactions?#
Yes, to help keep your account safe, we set limits on certain types of stock and ETF trades. These limits can vary based on factors like the type and size of the transaction and how long your account has been open.
These safeguards are part of our fraud prevention efforts and are based on typical account activity, such as how customers fund their accounts, the size and frequency of trades, and the number of transactions placed in a single day. Your limits may also change over time as your account history builds.
Can I use my OnePay Points to invest in stocks or ETFs?#
Yes. You can redeem OnePay Points as cash back, which is immediately submitted for the exact cash back amount to purchase your selected stock or ETF. Once OnePay Points are redeemed, they cannot be converted back into points.
When can I buy stocks or ETFs using OnePay Points?#
If you redeem points during market hours, your order is placed immediately. If you redeem points outside of market hours, your order will be queued and placed on the next available trading day.
How do I buy a stock or ETF using OnePay Points?#
To make an investment using OnePay Points:
Open the OnePay app.
Tap the points listed in the upper-right corner of the Home screen.
Tap Redeem.
Select Invest.
Tap Continue.
Enter the amount of OnePay Points you wish to redeem (minimum of 25 points), and tap Continue.
Pick a stock or ETF investment, and follow the on-screen instructions to place your order.
What is an IPO?#
An IPO or initial public offering, is when a private company makes its stock available to public for the first time. Once a company's shares begin trading on a public exchange like the NYSE or Nasdaq, anyone can buy and sell them — including through OnePay Invest.
Why can’t I buy an IPO stock in my OnePay Invest account yet?#
Even if an IPO has been announced or is in progress of going public, the stock may not be available to purchase right away. In some cases, shares may first be offered to certain investors before they are available for trading on the exchanges.
OnePay will make the stock available once it is actively trading and live market data is available. Orders cannot be placed for an IPO until it begins trading publicly and is supported on the OnePay platform.
When will the IPO be available to trade in my OnePay Invest account?#
Availability depends on when the stock begins trading publicly and when OnePay Invest is able to support it on our platform. We'll do our best to make it available as soon as possible once both of those conditions are met. If a stock is not yet available in your OnePay Invest account, you can opt in to receive notifications in the app. This way, you’ll be alerted once trading becomes available and can begin to place orders. To turn on notifications: open the app > tap Invest > settings icon > notifications.
How do market orders, limit orders and stop loss orders work?#
OnePay Invest offers dollar-denominated market orders, plus full-share conditional orders.
Market orders: Customers enter a dollar amount to buy or sell. During market hours, the order executes at the best available market price. Orders submitted outside market hours wait until the next business day’s market open.
Limit buy orders: Customers set the highest price they are willing to pay and must place the order in full shares. The order executes only if the security can be purchased at that price or lower; fractional shares are not available.
Limit sell orders: Customers set the lowest price they are willing to accept and must place the order in full shares. The order executes only if the security can be sold at that price or higher; fractional shares are not available.
Stop-loss sell orders: Customers set a stop price and must place the order in full shares. If the security reaches the stop price, the order becomes a market sell order. The final execution price may differ from the stop price, and fractional shares are not available.
How can I cancel my pending limit or stop order?#
Pending conditional orders remain open until they are filled, expire, are canceled, or are rejected. You can cancel an order by locating it in the open orders section of your Invest account and select the available cancellation option.
Please note that cancellation may not take effect immediately. If the order is already being processed or has been partially filled, only the unfilled portion may be canceled. Review the displayed order status and transaction details to confirm the outcome.
Why hasn't my limit or stop order executed yet?#
Conditional orders are not guaranteed to execute and may remain pending until the required price is reached:
A limit buy can execute only at your selected limit price or lower.
A limit sell can execute only at your selected limit price or higher.
A stop-loss sell remains pending until the security reaches your stop price. Once triggered, it becomes a market sell order, so the final execution price may differ from your stop price.
Your order may remain pending until its selected expiration date—same day, one week, 30 days, or 90 days. You can review the order details in the app to confirm its current status, selected price, and expiration date.
