This article provides essential information and tips to help you recognize and avoid common scams and protect your financial security.
How can I protect myself from potential scams and fraud attempts? #
Always verify the identity of anyone you are transacting with, even if they appear to be someone you know. If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers may attempt to steal your personal or financial information for their own gain. To protect yourself, you should never provide anyone with sensitive or personal information, such as your account number, one-time password, or social security number/tax identification number.
If you believe that you are a victim of a scam, contact our Customer Support team immediately or say Agent in chat to be connected to a OnePay Specialist.
What are some common scams or fraud with peer to peer payments?#
Imposter scams#
Scammers may call, text, or email you, pretending to be a OnePay representative. They often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into sending money or sharing sensitive information.
Remember: OnePay will never ask for payments, passcodes, or sensitive information through unsolicited calls, emails, or texts. Always verify the recipient’s details before making a transfer.
Too good to be true deal scams#
Scammers may offer products or deals that seem unrealistically generous or urgent, often requesting payment or personal details in exchange.
Protect yourself:
Never respond to unsolicited offers or click on unknown links.
Research the product and company through trusted sources before making a purchase or sharing information.
When in doubt, log back in to the OnePay app through the app directly (not through any shared links) or call back to a publicly available phone number. OnePay Customer Support can be reached at (855) 830-6200..
Money Mule Scams#
In a money mule scam, a scammer asks you to receive money and then transfer part of it elsewhere. The original funds are often stolen or fraudulent. Acting as a money mule is illegal and can result in serious legal consequences.
Never agree to transfer funds on behalf of someone you do not know personally and trust.
How do I keep my OnePay Retail Card safe?#
Never share your OnePay Retail Card information—including the card number, CVC, or expiration date—with anyone.
Be wary of anyone claiming to be law enforcement or a company representative or a person in need who asks you to purchase retail cards and provide any part of your card information. Legitimate organizations and law enforcement agencies will never request payment using retail cards or ask for your sensitive information. If you receive such a request, report it to OnePay Customer Support immediately.
